The mental distortions of depression

The world which once shun light in infinite vibrant colours is now consumed by a darkness which appears to have no form yet seems to have limitless power.

The power I speak is like a second shadow only, instead of following the actions of the owner of the shadow, it insidiously creeps up inside one’s mind and burrows deep beneath your inner conscience making little alterations here and there but not enough to be noticeable nor preventable.

It is the cancer in your mind that you are unable to expunge. The creator of misery and further suffering. It feeds on negativity, this monster has no rational demands so bargaining is off the table.

Ignorance can be bliss yet a dangerous route, waking up a week later looking at actions that you have come about.

It is when constant mindfulness and  bringing oneself back to the reality,  that one has the power to see and bring out one’s best side even when one’s worst side is wearing their skin.

Put yourself in another’s shoes to greater understand the inner workings of another’s mind

Uncomfortable shoes

You don’t need the ability of an empath to make an attempt to put yourself into the mind of another person.

Here a few basic things I have learned that I believe to be helpful in ‘putting yourself in another’s else’s shoes’.

— Make NO assumptions when meeting another person for the first time; If you allow your personal bias to influence your perspective on the onset then you have already put yourself at a disadvantage

— Ask with ‘genuine’ curiosity with no apparent motive in mind towards others and they are far more likely to display a more truthful and unoffensive stance when they respond

— Only when we are able to convince another that we are genuinely looking out for their best interests, will allow the person a ‘safe space’ to let you into their internal world, one piece at a time

— By being aware of your own personal bias and prejudice prior to engagement with another can greatly assist in enabling others to open up in the ways that they feel is natural and comfortable

— Without some form of ongoing rapport between any two individuals,  it can allow room for ‘selfish emotions’ that generally drive the level of openness and curiosity to dissipate. Thus an ongoing mutual connection is far more likely to bear bear the fruit of emotional expression, which is the essence of understanding another’s mind

— By listening to certain tones of voice, bodily gestures, the changing of subjects when issues that do no want to be discussed, noticing changes in emotional state and many other forms of identifying how another is thinking and feeling, lays the groundwork for developing a consistent level of rapport

Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde: From up to down

CNwcQsuUwAEsJMs

My whole world is spinning

One minute I am winning

Another, straight back to the beginning

Sitting here wishing

My brain would come out of remission

One small act

A catalyst reaction in my neural fission

I gotta battle with Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

One wants to help, one tells lies

Leads me to despise

Heeds me to strive

What keeps me alive

Is that deep down inside

Where my true identity hides

A blessed man

Open with both eyes

Yet still closed

To Mr Hyde the evil side

That will always reside

So I bind you

Wrap you up and blind you

Remind you

Who holds the reigns

To take us to fame

Explore the world not constricted

By your domain

At every corner I restrain you

Till my values remain true

Mental doctor for the crew

Experimental techniques learnt from the weak

Who’s outcome was bleak

Stared into their mind to find

What ultimately binds them

What memories remind them

Of brutality amongst their closest kin

A serious sin

A part of them

Never able to let go

Of the pain and strife from long ago

Restricting daily life to their unbeknown

I let the truth be told

It don’t matter what I tell you

Your combination of matter added with sentience

You hear my words but do you understand each sentence

Created just for you

To sit back and reflect on when you get the blues

It’s a hard road ahead

To overcome the past that fuels the dread

Constant anxiety at the back of your head

Believing it to be confined

Yet when you unwind

It comes back to the surface

In that once blissful moment ever so superfluous

Anger, your greatest enemy

Gun loaded and at the ready

Out and about trigger heavy

Out the front door to start up the Chevy

…Oh shit

Why does my chest feel so heavy

I’m not ready

Feeling unsteady

Is this excitement, remorse my brain won’t tell me

Just as the oxygen fills my lungs

My heart clenches all muscles strung

Imagery back to a time among

I had missed and dismissed my chance for bliss

And only now do I reminisce

A double edged blade fighting closed fists

To fight again, re enlist

What I perceive to be reality

What is fun and what is not has always confounded me

What defies ones sanity

If the human experience is merely a perception of reality

We are all insane in our moments of fame

Winning a game

When controlled by others and our thoughts pertained

Living life on the basis of the success in ones mind

From evaluations and experiences from a previous time

The only difference is when your actions cross a legal line

I will be re-united with you at the grave

Re-united with open eyes

The clan of my

Brand of rye

That ran too dry

Like sand too fine

Command sublime

Reprimand my rhyme

Collect the fans I dine

Dissect and can those fine

As I ran the line

Scanned all sly

Banned, just try

I’m the man, you just get by

As I let my wolves out of the cage

Unfurled with rage

To set the stage

As I bet my wage

And inject the slaves

To protect my ways to the grave

Protect the plays to pave

A way to a better day

Life is like an internet browser history

— Our reality is defined by the information we choose to give ourselves.

— If too large a portion is dedicated to the research of misery/negativity in the world, when we return to our browser history (human past experiences) there will be a higher propensity of information related to misery/negativity. (misery/negativity could be replaced with joy/happiness for example and it would have the same effect)

— It is then much more likely during abstract moments throughout our daily lives that we will allow ourselves to reflect back on this information.

— So take care of what information you choose to absorb on a regular basis, as it will greatly influence your outward perception of all aspects of the world around you.

An short guide to meditation by (Meditation Track by Deval Premal)

The idea of meditation is to essentially turn off the thinking, ego part that defines us individually, and pay more attention to what one is experiencing with their 5 senses.

In this case there is a video for you to focus on visually, generally meditation works better when one is using their eyes to observer the moment they are currently in

By focusing on the mantra being chanted by Deva Premal, there are only 3 senses remaining that also need to be kept in focus; what you can feel, what you can smell and what you can taste.

This does not mean using all 5 senses at once when meditating, but using the senses available to you as you listen to the track to allow you to focus on:

WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW AT THIS VERY MOMENT, not a moment before and not a moment afterwards. As soon as we notice that the mind has wandered off to thoughts of the past of making future projections then we are no longer in the moment.

The goal of meditation is to stay ‘in the moment’ for extended periods of time, so that when something does occur in real life it is much easier to deal with as.

Potential coping methods during mental duress

–Your mind is like a living organism which displays certain traits and ideals. If you do not acknowledge these traits and ideals within your mind, they will continue to operate in the background of the mind (the subconscious) and affect your thoughts and actions.

— Sometimes it is easier to make peace with and accept the mental state (IE stressed out) that you are in, than attempt to change this to a more preferable mental state (completely relaxed) as this can take extraneous energy. Wait out the the storm rather than bear it

— Taking note of potential triggers and developing coping methods in advance

— Instead of making desperate attempts to change mental states, start to develop an awareness, understanding of this each of your mental states to assist in coming to terms and controlling them better.
